Montisera Ltd, a Finnish development company focused on developing and commercialising bioactive compounds, has a specific extraction method for knotwood. This liquid-liquid extraction method, acquired from UPM, builds a strong patent family with Montisera’s patented spruce hot water extract for the treatment of lower urinary tract diseases. The patents supports Montisera’s strategy in developing health-promoting molecules and novel materials from biomass.
Montisera is actively seeking innovative partners to commercialise our bioactive molecules and technology. The invention behind the patented extraction method enables knotwood to be fractionated so that single components can be separated from a multi-component mixture. In addition to the process of separating hemicelluloses, the active health promoting components from soft wood, the outcome includes a side stream, where the lignin can be effectively separated. Thus Montisera is a potential partner in providing lignin for the novel piloting projects for lignin-related industry leaders.
