Stora Enso is investing EUR 10 million to build a pilot facility that will produce lignin-based carbon materials. The company is producing lignin at their Sunila Mill undee the brand name Lineo™ which is used as a renewable alternative for fossil-based phenolic materials. The new investment will focus on processing lignin into a carbon intermediate that can be utilised in batteries for uses in consumer electronics, the automotive industry and large-scale storage systems.
